DEVIL'S NEST/FEEDING/NPC NOTES
LOST MEMORIES (FROM DEATHS)
Sharp, well-maintained sword, meant for one-handed use despite traditional technique. From Yoru to Hiru, a former business run by monsters.
Replaced a katana obtained during Dr. Rainsford's monstrous game, then lost months later within Plaga's Peak.
Opens a matching lock on a door within the Devil's Nest; any rust has long since been rubbed off.
Stocke keeps it on a chain around his neck, along with a fake emerald made of glass.
Confusing communication device.
All of the physical upgrades are left inside Stocke's room; the laptop itself he sometimes lugs around with him.
A good six or so concealed on Stocke's person, plus another two that he carries openly (one at his side, one strapped to his arm) for a grand total of eight. (Holy shit buddy calm down.)
Of various sizes and styles.
Heavy, blood-coloured cloth, hooded and lined with hoary fur. Equally good at blocking out the sun and keeping someone warm.
Hangs in Stocke's room in summer.
A large pack, kept in a corner of Stocke's room at the Devil's Nest. Holds camping supplies and a constantly-replenished first-aid kit that sees... rather a lot of use.
Matchbook(s) might be more accurate. Usually has a way of starting a fire with him, despite fire being detrimental to his shade form.
Obtained from trading with a mysterious and suspicious old lady. Currently left in room (possibly in empty bottles from the bar below, make do with what you have, shh).
Includes: shade smoke, arachne leg, kelpie hoof, piece of demon horn.
He wouldn't be able to buy something huge, but covering a few rounds of drinks is no problem.
Also holds, folded: two handwritten pages (one each from Zel and Amelia's notes) and a letter.
Various objects, including:
- Vial of cinnamon scent, also from Rainsford's monstrous game (in room) - Extra sets of clothes, made by Vietnam and/or Rohan - A journal and an angular bracelet (in room) |

DEVIL'S NEST/FEEDING/NPC NOTES, transplanted from plurk with no fancy coding bcs im lazy
His approximate daily routine:
- He usually wakes up before nightfall! It's not uncommon for him to be out and about in the city while the sun's still in the sky, as long as the shadows are long enough to hide in
- (now that he has upgraded shapeshifting, he can wander about in a fully-human appearance, but he's still just as affected by sunlight)
- He doesn't have shifts in the Nest as such because he's basically working all the time. Job is life. That said he's not always in the Nest itself, he pops in and out constantly
Tracking down and driving out hunters that settle nearby, checking on his informants/the general state of the city, running odd jobs for Greed
(He's totally fine with blackmail/threats, especially when it's an alternative to killing someone. Neither are exactly new to him)
- When he's at the Nest, he's always keeping an eye on the floor for trouble and ready to kick people out.
Very rarely he'll bartend; he doesn't have actual hours for doing it but if someone needs to be covered
(He's got everything memorized, but he's not great at customer service)
Besides that, he'll check the ledger and help clean up at the end of the... early morning.
- If he knows he's going to be out of the Nest for more than a couple hours, he'll lug his network device along (probably strapped to his back or something, who even knows)
If not he'll leave it in the Nest and check whenever he pops in
Stocke is spying on the public network all the time... if you've posted something mentioning the BB/gods there's a good chance he's seen it, and sometimes he keeps an eye on other interesting conversations
- About 1-3 times a month, he'll take a day-long trip up to Bavan. More rarely, he'll visit Vandare. He catches
sneaks onthe bus a few hours before nightfall, floats in a dark spot in the back, and dozes in shadow formAlso if he hears about something interesting going on (newbies! etc etc) he'll find a way to head over
- Shorter snippets of downtime he uses to maintain his weapons/first aid kit, maintain weapon skills, maybe practice monster abilities, go over any new info on the gods
- He sleeps sometime in the morning, usually past sunrise
When he's sleeping he tends to flicker in and out of shadow form
His human form takes concentration and he's got it on autopilot enough that if he's sleeping lightly he can unconsciously keep it up, but deep sleep is too much
Feeding notes!
- Stocke needs to feed on souls once a week
(human food he still eats more or less normally, because that makes it easier to shapeshift solid, but he doesn't need it anymore)
- He targets monster hunters foremost, then anyone causing trouble for the Nest, then anyone already close to death. If none of the above are available, he'll choose (roughly, with exceptions) at random.
- In human and fog form he has a mouth, but in non-fog shadow form he doesn't, so there he 'eats' souls by sticking them in his open ribcage where they get shredded
- If he's gone a while without feeding his senses/perception of the world will start to go dull. Just after he feeds they snap into hyperfocus (nothing inhuman, just something like adrenaline rush)
- Eating a soul leaves the body and energy behind, so he tends to possess the empty shell and walk it to the Nest for other monsters. He's been getting lots of possession practice this way
- Technically, if he used no shade powers at all - down to telekinesis and shapeshifting into a solid human form - he could go for two weeks without feeding. But it's so natural to use them he has no idea
Informants! Stocke has a group of NPCs affiliated with the Nest, mostly in Vandare and Bavan or ones who visit often. They often trade favours with Stocke, including acting as informants. On Stocke's part this ranges from driving off monsters/paying them normal money to more unique stuff - for example, one of the more superstituous ones asks him to carry stuff around during fog to 'infuse' it with monsterly power, usually vials of liquid or powder. (This is absolute bs, of course, but the NPC asking for it believes it, and Stocke doesn't know enough about Ryslig's magic to comment either way.) He also has a rapport with quite a few more in Djav itself who simply report what they hear around the city.
LOST MEMORIES
"That's what I like to hear. I'm assigning two subordinates to you for this job."
"Why? I don't need even one. If I'm the sole survivor again..."
Regained via Tikbalang (now Mana) rewards.
He also no longer remembers describing anything from the True Ending to anyone in Ryslig.
He will still remember they existed through roles, such as "my sister." Naming someone to him will have him hear it as static instead of a word.
SCARS
(yes) (smh, stocke, you need to chill)
Notably: some of the scars seem to be "echoed," in that it looks like something healed over and then hit again in the same way, or nearly the same way. He also has a large scar to the side of his abdomen which looks like he was once impaled.
Misc scar notes: Stocke's human form exists due to shapeshifting, and functions off what feels "normal" to him, so he tends to lose scars gained as a shade as they heal and he forgets about them. Only especially memorable ones remain, and those will still fade with time.
